Seniors 0-13  Downpatrick 1-8 14/05/04
Kilclief held out against a late Downpatrick comeback to clinch a well deserved victory and send the crowd home happy in this Division 2 derby.

As expected, it was a full blooded exciting encounter. Kilclief were in control for much of the match, with Rory Sharvin and Ciaran Sloan excelling.

From the outset, Kilclief showed their determination taking an early lead through Rory Sharvin in the second minute. Andrew Telford replied for the Hoops and Sharvin and Gerard Deegan then exchanged points to keep the scores level after ten minutes. There was a further exchange of points, between Sloan and Stitt and then the home side moved up a gear. Five points followed without reply through Kieran Sloan, Rory Sharvin, Ciaran Sloan (0-2) and Julian Swail as the Red and Greens dominated. Deegan had a late first half point to leave the half time score Kilclief 0-8 RGU 0-4.

After the restart, the hometeam continued to punish the Downpatrick men. Ronan Strain, Rory Sharvin and Ciaran Sloan had points apiece with a solitary Deegan pointed free in reply. Things were going Kilclief's way but then the RGU made some tactical changes with the introduction of Karl Oakes who combined well with Telford to begin the visitors' comeback. Further points from Deegan were answered by a Kieran Polly free but the visitors continued to fight back. A goal from Oakes on 58 minutes left a point between the teams and set up a hectic finish. RGU's top scorer Deegan broke through on goal and was grounded for what referee Ciaran Brannigan deemed to be a penalty. Oakes strode up to take it but to the absolute delight of the home crowd, he met his match in James Steenson who pulled off a glorious save in the Kilclief goals.

Inspired by this and the vociferous Kilclief support, the Ben Dearg boys broke forward. Phelim Sharvin found Mark Polly who slotted over the last point of the game to give Kilclief an excellent two point victory

Ben Dearg 1.2 V Darraghcross 0.0

The Camogs celebrated their first victory of the new season, away from home on Monday night, with an excellent performance against Darraghcross.

A few changes took place in the team this week with our star striker ‘Smash’ taking up a new position in half back. The team started of very strongly and held on to a lot of the possession in the first half. A wee placed goal by Ciara Gilmore lifted their confidence immediately and was closely followed by a point from Rachelle Hynds. Darraghcross had bother keeping Ciara Hynds and ‘Pricey’ down. They proved to be excellent feeders of the ball to the forwards where Rachelle struck another over the bar before half time.

Play slowed down in the second half with Ben Dearg shooting into the small nets. There were a number of close calls and a few brave attempts from Laura Sharvin and Amy Swail that nearly made it to the back of the net, but they were overcome by Darraghcross’ steady full back and keeper.

Ben Dearg Team: Lorraine McCartan, Mary Polly, Ciara Hynds, Aisling Magee, Vicky Sharvin, Martina McAlindan, Catherine Hanvey, Karen Price, Ciara Gilmore, Rachelle Hynds, Laura Sharvin and Amy Swail.
