Teconnaught 2:11 U-16's 2:5 |
13/05/08 |
Under 16’s lose out to Teconnaught.
It’s a theme that seems to be running through the club at most levels at the moment, that is, bags of effort for little reward. Anyone watching the U16 match last night could not help but be frustrated for fifteen young fella’s putting the effort in but not translating it into scores. Time and again the ball was worked skillfully up the field only for a loose pass to go the wrong way or a wayward shot to go the wrong side of the posts.
Manager Rory Sharvin made some very clever positional changes in advance of this match and they proved inspirational, none more so than Conor Merron at full forward who scored at will and would have continued to do so if only he had the supply he needed.
Kilclief started well with Sean Cultra, JD and Rory Sharvin all solid in defence and working the ball up through Liam Curran and Cormac Sharvin towards Conor Merron who was placed to take his goal and point perfectly.
The second quarter of the first half saw a laziness creep into Kilclief in key positions allowing the men in blue to take control in midfield and dictate the course of play until the half with a three point advantage at half time.
Never one to mince his words, manager Rory Sharvin told a few home truths and got the required focus back into his older players and Kilclief started the second half with purpose and direction taking some well worked points. The effort level was sustained throughout the half but unfortunately this did not translate into scores. At the other end Danny Savage continues to impress with no less than three point blank saves and good clearances.
The winning formula is still proving elusive but management and mentors believe it’s “not far away” and hopefully it should come together in the coming games. As it was no-one could be faulted for effort in the second half and the boys got a glimmer of what could be in the very near future. |
