The next phase of the Down Juvenile hurling competitions has commenced. This phase is the Hurling Championships with top teams playing in the Championship finals later in the year. 7/8 Home v. Darragh Cross

 | Sympathy (20/07/04) |

Recent months have seen the loss of two stauch Down Gaels. The passing of Brendan Mc Keown (R.I.P) was a blow to the GAA and in particular the hurling fraternity in Down. Brendan had devoted much of his life to promotion of hurling and at the time of his death was Leas runai of the Hurling Board with responsibility for organisation of juvenile hurling competitions. Sighle Mc Anulty (R.I.P)had served the GAA and Camogie association for around 80 years. As author of the Down County History, 'O Shiol go Blath', she was particularly helpful to Kilclief when our Club History was being produced. She welcomed Club History Committee members into her home, read early proofs and provided help and guidance throughout the book's preparation. Sighle penned the foreword to the Club's History and was a guest at the Kilclief Ben Dearg Centenary Dinner in 2001.
Both Sighle and Brendan will be sadly missed and the sympathy of the Club is extended to their relatives and family circles. |

 | Holiday Update (19/07/04) |
Apart from inter county activity, the July period is usually a quiet one at club level with a break in league fixtures. Most recently, the senior footballers last match was a well deserved home win over Ballymartin. The hurlers have had less success with a league defeat last week to Ballygalget followed by further loss against Liatroim in the Dick Mullan Cup on Sunday. The Dick Mullan Trophy was presented by former player, Eddie Mullan while Liatroim were managed by Paddy Mc Cartan. Both men are linked by the fact that their late fathers, Ben Dearg's Richard Mullan and Liatroim's P.F. Mc Cartan, were renowned goalkeepers, both representing Down and Ulster in the 1940s and 50s.
On the social front, the Club held a successful disco and BBQ last week. In county matches, Ciaran Sloan was part of the Down Under 21 Hurling squad who overcame Antrim in the Ulster Championship and Kilclief were also represented on the Down Junior Hurling panel by Niall Conway and Liam Deegan - the County Juniors are set to play London in the All Ireland semi final on Saturday 31 July in Newry (7.30p.m). |

 | Website Back (Almost) (01/07/04) |
We've cleaned the viruses and hopefully sorted out the recent problems with the site. As it's now the holiday period however, there's likely to be little activity in the next couple of weeks so apart from an occasional update, the website will not be fully operational until week beginning 18 July when we'll be back to FULL working order. Thanks to everyone for their patience while these problems were being worked on.
